Inspiring Change Through Charity

At Infotel UK, we believe in the power of coming together as a community to create meaningful change. This year, we’ve kickstarted our charity initiatives with two incredible organisations: Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter and The People’s Kitchen. Here’s a snapshot of the impact we’ve made so far, and our advice for companies looking to expand their charitable efforts.

Supporting Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter

Earlier this month, we donated £107 to Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter. This organisation’s mission to promote kindness and prevent cruelty to animals resonates deeply with many of our pet-loving colleagues. The shelter’s work spans the North East, helping animals find their forever homes while providing essential care.

We received a heartfelt thank-you email from the shelter:

“Thank you for your kind donation! You’ve not just given money; you’ve given hope and care to animals in desperate need. Your gift of £107 will help to fund our transformative work by supporting our vet bills, general care, and energy costs. Your contribution is making real, tangible changes and saving lives across the North East. Thank you from everyone at Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter.”

Steve Hume, who suggested this charity initaitive, shared his thoughts:

“Animals can’t choose their start in life or what happens after. Four million are adopted yearly, but shelters still need our help for the many more who aren’t adopted. Adults can change the outcome of their own lives.”

Thank you, Steve, for championing this cause and inspiring us to support it! Find out about the many ways you can support the charity by clicking here.

Partnering with The People’s Kitchen

We were also privileged to support The People’s Kitchen, an organisation founded in 1985 by Alison Kay. Created through concern and compassion of unhoused people and the consequences of having no set address, Alison started to provide food, clothing, and companionship to the homeless and vulnerable individuals in the community of Newcastle.

Today, they serve over 250 meals daily and distribute essential items, including clothing and toiletries, 365 days a year.

Our visit included a tour led by Tom, one of the dedicated volunteers, who shared the charity’s remarkable story. We also met two wonderful ladies organising donated clothing items. They highlighted urgent needs, including:

  • Women’s clothing (size 8-10, including undergarments).
  • Men’s socks (large sizes and above).
  • UHT milk, bottled water, and canned soup.

The organisation are always actively seeking volunteers to help out in their Newcastle City Centre location, or have many other initiatives to get involved with. Visit their volunteer page to learn more.

Bring your ideas, and make your impact

A key starting point for businesses who are looking to broaden their charitable efforts is by speaking to employees about causes close to their hearts. Your team will have individual passions and connections within the community, and can lead you to incredibly worthy causes.

Don’t underestimate the power of diverse forms of support; financial donations are always welcome, but consider also volunteering time, raising awareness, or even collecting much-needed items.

Finally, remember to highlight the impact of your efforts, both internally to inspire your team and externally to demonstrate your company’s values. Sharing stories like those from the charities we’ve supported can encourage others to get involved and create a ripple effect of positive change.
